Last night we watched Das Experiment, a german movie where scientists lock up a bunch of volunteers together, some of them playing the prisoners and the others playing the jailers. Things get out of hand very quickly.
While watching the movie, you just can’t understand how people can get so violent and sadistic just because the other guy has a different uniform (remember : it’s all an experiment, and the “prisoners” didn’t do anything). Then you realize : it’s the same in real life. Just because you have the pretty uniform does not give you the right to use violence, even psychologic violence. The legitimacy given by society is a mere convention.
