Magicicadas

Last september we went camping in the Virginia piedmont area, at the Twin Lakes state park. It was really nice, and we were able to find lots of dead bugs and bug shells.

Apparently, these shells look just like Magicicada’s, which are insects that only come out every 17 years. I discovered this today when I learned that a very beautiful short movie about Cicadas won the AAAS Multimedia Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge.
