google desktop search hits 1.0

After 5 months of beta, Google desktop search has now hit 1.0. This new version now crawls and lets you search in

  • PDF files
  • Thunderbird and netscape inboxes
  • Firefox and Netscape bookmarks and history (neat, neat)
  • Music files
  • Pictures and Video files…

As you can see, this release should be a lot more useful than the beta.

As Google desktop search is now modular, people can even create their own search plugins if the standard searches are not good enough. This is really neat, and you can already find plugins to search in OpenOffice files and Trillian conversations.
I just need a MSN Messenger search plugin and this will be bliss.
